Here's a look at some of the latest news in the video game industry:
- Sexy new details are being released about the Prince of Persia prequel. The game, titled Prince of Persia: Prodigy, will have a cell-shaded look (it looks pretty darn cool), the game will feature an all new protagonist/continuity, and the game will feature a sidekick/support character named Elika.
The game has a soft release date of "Holiday 2008".
- Capcom has officially announced that Street Fighter IV will be heading to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC. The game is expected to be released this winter. Playtests of an incomplete arcade version by several journalists seem to indicate the game is a nice mix of classic gameplay and updated features.
- One of the newest games to be announced making use of the Wii Balance Board is Shaun White Snowboarding. The game will also be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC.
- In a surprising announcement, Ubisoft plans on releasing Beyond Good and Evil 2.
The first game was a critical darling but failed at the cash register due to stiff competition from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
- Bionic Commando Rearmed, the remake to the classic NES game Bionic Commando, has been delayed. It was set for a May release but ran into "bugs and submission procedures." A new release date hasn't been announced.
- In "only a matter of time" news, GameStop will stop carrying the Microsoft Zune. The Zune, released to compete with the iPod, has sold only 2,000,000 units.
- Some light has been shed on some of the new multiplayer modes in Gears of War 2. One mode is "Assassination", where players will respawn as long as the leader stays alive. Another is "Wingman", where two players team up to control a single character while competing against four other teams. There's also "Meatflag", where the flag is a hostile enemy that must be stunned and taken back to base. The game is apparently 65 per cent complete and is still slated for a November release.
- Some new details with for the new Fatal Frame game for the Wii. Fatal Frame: Mark of the Lunar Eclipse is set on Rougetsu Island and you play one of three girls who head back to the island to remember what had happened to them during a kidnapping incident.
You get to explore a mansion on the island as well as other locales. The game is slated for release this summer in Japan "" no word yet on a North American release.
